The girls at work and I were just talking about our plants and what we house them in. I like to go with terracotta pots because a) they're cheap and b) they match. But I was starting to fret about getting a little tired of their sameness and this is the absolutely perfect thing to spiff them up.

watercolors

Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums, even visually it is what I gravitate toward. I found this work by Michelle Armas months ago and just rediscovered it on my desktop. I love the simple elegance that watercolor creates and feel like it's the closet thing I have to a "style."

Speaking of watercolors, I get just as excited to see the illustrations that accompany the DailyCandy emails as the deals and finds they send. Below are just a few of my favorites. I especially love the bottom map one that can be seen of some of their travel correspondence.

the sky planter

I know this idea is nothing new; I've seen the topsy-turvy tomato planter commercial hundreds of times. The sky planter, however, has really stepped it up a notch by making their planter ceramic. If 90% of my plants were not dying at the moment and I thought whatever I planted in the sky planter stood a chance of staying alive, I would order this in a second!
(I even have empty ceiling hooks longing to be useful)

a bit of a brown thumb

One family trait which I did not inherit is a green thumb. My mother's knack for killing plants was the butt of many jokes growing up, but next to me she is a regular Martha Stewart. The bf is quite the gardener, and when he visits he takes pity on my plants and tries to doctor them up. This past weekend, in addition to stocking up on plant food, I also added 2 new plants to my little, green family.

My new additions are a beautiful Sea Pink Splendens and a Stevia plant. I just love that the Splendens have grass along with it! It's just like having a little piece of yard inside!

We'll see how long I can keep them healthy.
